Districts of Almaty

Almaty is a picturesque city, located in the foothills of Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. The city consists of six administrative districts. High mountains on the South edge of the city, as well as rectilinear layout of the major streets, helps visitors easily navigate Almaty.

Medeu and Almaly administrative districts are the most preferred by foreigners to live in. Basically, these two districts compose the city center with highly developed infrastructure, including supermarkets, shops and restaurants, located on a walking distance from each other.

"Stolichny” and "Yubileiny” supermarkets, Green Bazaar, Panfilov Park, Silk Way City mall, Old Square and many other popular places are located here.

This district is unofficially called "Golden Square”. It mainly consists of 5-storey brick houses built in the 1970’s. Such houses have the municipal utilities supply, no elevators and security posts. Apartment rental fees here depend on location and general condition of apartment. The prices per month may vary:

• 2-room — $500-$1000
• 3-room — $800-$1800
• 4-room -$800- $2000

Samal -1, -2, and -3 micro-districts are located on the South from «Golden Square», near the Republic Square and the President’s Residence. Apartment houses are either 5 -storey brick-made, or 9 and 14 –storey monolith buildings. All utilities are municipal, excluding gas supply.

Residents of higher floors in this district can enjoy wonderful mountain views. Ramstore mall is located in this district as well. Rental prices are roughly the same as in the «Golden Square».

Many luxury apartment complexes were build in Almaty in recent years. Such complexes generally have its own infrustructure, including underground parking, security posts, playgrounds, fitness clubs etc.

Among such luxury apartment complexes are «Capital Centre», «Tau Samal», «Kuat», «Pioneer», "Samal Deluxe, " «Renaissance», «Rhapsody», «Etude», «Ak Bota», «Europolis» «Arman», etc.

As regards to mansions, foreigners prefer the following districts: "Gorny Gigant”, "Kok-Tube-2”, Dostyk ave., «Yubileiny», «Alem». These districts are quite close to the city center. The houses here are supplied with gas, municipal sewer and water.

Rental fees range from $3000 to $10000. The price depends on the location, area of the mansion and interior design. The most expensive houses are located in «Yubileiny» and «Alem» districts.

The western part of the city is also actively being settled: "Dolina Roz” and "Solnechnaya Dolina” apartment complexes, as well as modern cottage villages are located on the South from Al-Farabi ave.

This district is popular among families with children, as it is very close to Miras International School and within 20-min. drive from American School.
